Caring for your Costume Jewelries
- Your jewelry should be put on last and taken off first while dressing. This is because make up materials can contain corrosive elements which can be harmful for the luster and shine of your jewelry. Taking it off first also helps your jewelry from getting in contact with other corrosive chemicals like perfume, hair spray, deodorant and household cleaning fluids, just to mention a few.
- Do not apply lotion around your neck or wrists when wearing costume jewelry for the same reasons listed above as it could ruin the finishing on your jewelries.
- Do not wear your costume jewelry while showering or if you intend to go for a swim. Costume jewelries gets damaged very quickly in harsh chemicals like chlorine or in a humid temperate found in aroma bath, spa or sea salt bath.
- Do not wear your costume jewelries for a long period of time especially in a hot and humid weather/summer as long-term exposure to sweat or while exercising, will cause jewelry deterioration.
- Do not use silver jewelry cleaner as it has a mild acid and will ruin your fashion jewelry and strip the finishing in seconds! Products that have acid, alcohol, ammonia and vinegar are an absolute no no as these can also rust and damage your fashion/costume jewelry.
- Fashion Jewelry/Costume Jewelry is best worn for occasions – If you are the type of person likes wearing costume jewelry everyday, ~ your jewelry will not last as long as someone who wears their jewelry every now & again. In that case, you may want to consider purchasing more durable jewelries like 925 Sterling Silver.
- If you have to clean your costume jewelry, clean them with a soft cloth.
- Fading is what concerns most, as the signs of wear off or colour fading may arise throughout time. This is common and unavoidable for all costume jewelry available in the market. Although there are many coatings and layers of plating over a costume jewelry for instance, if the layer of the plating has faded due long wear or poor maintenance, there is no way to restore them back to their former shine.
- Keep your costume jewelry in a soft zipped up pouch/silk gift pouch or in a sealed jewelry box so that the dust won't easily get to it.
